Lightbulb Brother.....I have seen the light! A 3.6 Varioram...

I bagged the idea of a 3.2 to 3.4 conversion.......bought a 1997 3.6 Varioram - going with a Steve Weiner modified Motronic with room for possible RS cams and other mod$ for the future.

Craig

The 1996-98 OBDII motors are special. The alarm system is integral with the computer system, and any change to the chip mapping will disable the DME unit.

We alter the fuel & timing maps at all throttle positions as well as disable the immobilizer (drive-block).

The motor makes more torque and has improved throttle response. With race gas, it gets even better, and there are other options for cams, 3.8 P/C's, and other internal mods...

Now the thought of that is just plain scary . . . . now if only I could convince the CFO that another transplant would be beneficial at this time

Welcome to the club!

I pick-up my car today, and I also went with a US '97 3.6 varioram using a Steve Weiner modified ECU. I can't wait!

Steve, Did you go through Loren before making that statement?

Seriously, this sounds like it going to be an awesome SC.

Brakes and Suspension upgrades to follow?

I think the thing that will surprise you the most is how beautifully driveable these cars are. My car has great balance. It's easy to drive, but it's fast as hell.

I think that you made a good decision. There is lots of room to grow starting from where you are.

great!

everytime I hear about another 3.6 vram upgrade I start eyeing my visa and then my hand shakes and then.... reality creeps in and I realize I already spent my 911 budget for the year :-)

Congrats and keep us posted!

Welcome to the club. Just a friendly warning...it's not easy to drive with an erection. You just have to learn to overcome it because it's unavoidable.

I WANT ONE TOO!!!

I have an 84 with 3.2, how much (approx.) did it cost?

How difficult is it for a backyard mechanic to do?

Will the 915 tranny take that much power?

3.2 to a 3.4, twin plug ad nauseum just wasn't gonna cut it........too much money for not enough performance with too many questions. That, and I'd be rebuilding an engine with fresh rings and a completely rebuilt top end!

Varioram:

20% more torque than a 964 engine at 4k rpms. Bwa ha ha ha ha ....
Perhaps 300 hp (gonna be damn close to it) with the Steve Weiner magic.

Engine was $8,900 and in incredible shape. Driven hard, Mobil 1 every 3k miles with records, and ITS CHASSIS DIED A NOBLE DEATH AT THE TRACK

Less than 4% leakdown COLD.

And I'll have to learn to drive with wood.

Yes, but you may lose some other parts periodically.
