Big Red Brake Kit Upgrade

Question to all,

I have recentlly purchased a front brake kit for my '77 Porsche 911. Kit consists of 993 Big Reds and caliper adapters. Unfortunately the rotors were not included. Here's the challenge...is there an O.E.M rotor that will fit the offset of the standard hub and is also 12.75"? Has anyone done this conversion with an O.E.M rotor?

and these are O.E.M rotors? damn!! I was quoted $650 for a set of domestic floating rotors and hats (msroadrace). So i guess that's the best price out there?

The kit included:
rotor adapter X 2
Caliper adapter X 2
Caliper adapter bolts X 4
Caliper bolts X 4
OEM 1998 993 Front pads w/out sensors X 1
NAS bolts, K-nut rotor mounting X 16 each
UL-32 Directional Vane rotors 309mm X 32mm X 2 each

Total: $415 plus Shipping

GT Directional Vane Gas Slotted rotors 309 X 32 X 2 each
ADD: $235

I opted to up to the GT Directional Vane Slotted rotors - these are wilwood and the version they use on NASCAR.

309mm??? Should they not be 322mm?? I'm not great in mathematical conversions, but i thought 12.75" rotors were needed with Big Reds??

Here's an article from Porsche Club of America. I'm confused by this...he mentioned the option of non-floating rotors.

"For rotors, some can be a direct replacement, and others require a hat to fit the rotor to the strut. In our example, the 930 rear rotor is a direct bolt-on to the 911SC . The stock Porsche 930 rotor has cast-in holes, which are much better than drilled rotors, and there are vendors offering slotted rotors also. The front rotors are a bit more complicated, as they must fit the 1978-1980 930 to fit on our 911SC. These models used a floating rotor setup where the rotor floats between two hats connecting it to the hub. You don't have to get the floating rotors, you can also get non-floating rotors. For street usage, the non-floating rotors will work fine, and will be quieter. At the other extreme, for pure track usage, the floating rotors are better, as they allow some rotor play for better brake performance."

Sorry - Mine are not big reds. Mine are 993 calipers (S4)and I need them to fit in 16" wheels - which big reds will not!

And yes, Bill Verburg is the man when it comes to brakes.

Here you are asking about sources for custom hats and rotors to fit your big reds - Try VCI - try the guy that I gave you, Try Steve Weiner - Here are a few links

yes, if you have a true Big Red(not a 993 painted red), then, a 993tt 2 piece rotor on a custom hat works fine. These are 322x32mm or roughly 12.67" x1.25". These rotors are almost cheap(~$150ea) last I looked(but I hear prices have been soaring lately)

This is what it looks like

In the back the parking brake portion of a 993tt rear,322x28mm, is modified to accept the stock 911 parking brake setup.

This is what it looks like

These full kits are available only from Race Technology, the NA distribution arm for Brembo.

Do you have a link to 'Race Technology', Bill? I found a company in the UK that does data-logging. I wasn't sure if that was it?

Sorry Ed - never saw your post. My brakes have 4 DE's on them. Last weekend me and my buddy from Texas both drove my car - and it was 100 on the track. Still going strong. Combined with Motul 600 fluid - I have been very happy with both the kit - and everybody said the rotors wouldn't last - they have and I have been hard on them
