Not sure. I changed all of the fuel injector seals and one of the fuel injectors. I used stuff-rags. I let the car sit for two days before starting. I double and triple-checked everything. I started the car up and let it run for five minutes before driving...no leaks. All of the injectors are still in place and the fittings to the fuel rail are still all attached.

I was driving, heard a loud "pop" (almost like backfiring), and smoke started to pour out from under the hood. I pulled off the road into a parking lot immediately. It took the fire department about 3 minutes to arrive...

My best guess is that in all the work I did, one of the 20-year old rubber fuel lines got weakened by me moving it. It broke when I was on the road and caught fire.

I think that it probably will.

The police stopped by when the FD was putting out my car...more out of curiousity than anything. One of them joked with me: "Weren't you that guy we got reports of putting a lit blow-torch under the hood of his car?" I didn't think it was funny.

If the timing belt was not severed in the fire (thus bending the valves) the engine is worth at least $3,000. Trans another $1,000. Buy it back from the insurance company.

At this exact moment, I don't feel up to the hassle of parting it out myself. Also, I think I might take a break from p-cars for a while. This may change, but it's how I feel right this minute.

i was t-boned in my "s" feb 17th and ended up with a sweeeeet 951 and i kept the "s" in the deal.

hang in there. things happen for a reason.

That's terrible, I know how you feel. I wasn't driving mine when it burned though... But mine burned on the first day of school, on a monday, go figure.

Such a terrible loss. It does sound like a fuel line let go, all over the exhaust manifold.

WOW I would totally freak if my car went up in flames, maybe I will install a fire system, 3 min's is a long time for a car to burn. Sorry for the bad luck

I'm not to that point yet. We'll see what happens with the insurance. I may just end up parting it out myself. I would certainly offer everything to the fine people here before eBay.

My sympathies for your loss. On the upside, the fire does not seem to have been all that hot, so you might be able to salvage a lot. It could be a matter of repainting the hood, and replacing everything outside of the engine.

You probably already know this, but in my opinion, the worst part about a car fire is the smell, it gets in everything...

HOLY S%$& DUDE! That is horrible... truely sorry. Dont tell me you just got your belts etc. done at Rick's last week and then it burns up now?! Hopefully insurance will take care of it, and if you decide to part it out I could probably take a few items of your hands, especially since I am so close. Let us know what happens and good luck!

Sorry to hear about the car Legion, like we need to lose another 'S'. When I was in Qatar (the only smart vehicle thing about that place) all vehicles there were required to have a fire extinguisher in them. Bracket bolted to the passenger side of the transmission hump. It might be a good thing to invest in for all of us.

Yeah thank god there was a shop guy with a fire extinguisher near by when my car tried to catch fire last summer in the parking lot at work. Stupid starter shorted and didnt get a chance to damage anything else since the guy had it out in less than 30 seconds. With these old cars, we probably should have a fire extinguisher with us in the car

Hell yes! I have a halon bottle on the tranny hump of my Stude, and have been considering getting another for the 944. I think that pic may have convinced me.
