Wellfor anyone who is wondering or hasnt got to drive it yet..ONE Word...WOOWWWWW we went to seattletoday and went to kirkland subaru and drove a wrx.. Mom first was thinkig eitherpassat or jetta.. One drive and the wrx sold her. So went through all the papers and whatnot.. Anyway I gotto drive homeas i need to "show"the car to friends, gf, whoever else wants to see... Well in any gear it has pickup but 1-3 is highly addictive.. Push the gas and whoosshh off ya go. shift to 2nd and here it goesall over again.. Well i drove home in the rain to wenatchee about 2 hour mountain pass. Was doing a comfy 80-90 whole way and reached 110 for a brief second.. so whoever hasnt drivin the car i would suggest to go test one out as they are alot better then people say.. The tractions rocks and feels more of rwd then fwd.. they claim 5.7 to60 and it feels it.Ive been in 3.2's and this IS faster.. So now im hooked just sucks that "MOM" get to have all the fun but she did tell me i can take to an autox one day to see how it preforms.. Well just had tosay that this carforthe 25-27k is a killer dealfo the others cars in that market as being "NEW".YEH always ratherhave an sc or carrera over it but hey for a new car unde warranty cant get much better then this, Sucks they had to waitso long to bring it here!!!
So go drive and have as much fun as i did.. BTW its silver with the black interior..momo steeing wheel, spoiler ect.. Plans for it is a life lenghtening turbo timer, chip, filer, exhaust and wheels.. Mom likes the 5spd too!! |

One of my co workers just bought a WRX wagon, and I have had a ride in it (in the rain). It does pretty well as fas as acceleration, and it certainly sticks to road. I think it would be a good "city sports car". It is more off road rally than track car. My SC and I could take him, though...

Give the scooby a chanse, lowering that thing by 2 inches with hard springs alone would let it slap around your SC...
I've heard 'more rally car then track car' before, but the thing has a superb chasis, you should see one being driven hard. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... My page over1g@hotmail.com Porsche owners Gallery.../My 944 |

I saw the ad on TV and went in to take a look at one - *$%&# that thing is ugly. I don't care if it goes like a bat out of hell, I don't think I could walk into the garage and smile like I do when I look at my 911.

I agree the WRX has some strongly agressive looks that may make some people fruwn on it. But I like it.
If I were to buy a ricer this would be the car. Then again I doubt I would get a ricer period, much less a compact car. Granted if it were bigger I may reconsider. At the SCCA auto-x this weekend there was a Subaru RS out there and it was dogging the typical Civic/Integra/Mitsu cars. The RS was the "hot-rod" version of the Subaru without Turbo and was replaced by the WRX. It is a shame that Subaru let Japan have all the fun for the last few years ![]() The WRX and SC would be a heck of a drivin match! Remember to break the car in gently though... If it gets dogged out before it properly breaks-in it might not last as long as you had hoped. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

There is a WRX in our autocross "neighborhood" who consistently has/is close to FTD. This is a group of cars with a 911 Turbo R (a la Ruf), various early and late 911s, 944 turbos, etc. The only serious competition is usually from a Supra turbo or a guy in T/A with great skill. By T/A I mean Trans Am.

It's not the aggressive looks that are the problem (I like the squared off wheel arches) but the hideous headlights. When the latest version was launched I was pretty impressed that they managed to make one of the ugliest cars on the road even uglier. Quite an acheivement.
![]() That said, a friend of mine has one of the old (& even faster) WRX's imported from Japan and it is seriously quick. |

I think the WRX is a 'pussy!'.
Beat one last auto-x I did and that was a stock 3.2 Carrera with Cat.!. I beat it by over a second!. The car is as ugly as hell and the thing comes without any low profile tires or width of tread!. The interior is about right for a 'Mum' to drive! Surprised it does'nt come complete with child seats!!!!! ![]() It does not say 'sporty' and definately not worth of a title World Rally Cross!. Put it up against a Ford Escort Cosworth anyday!(stock 300 bhp i believe). The problem in the states is that you don't get half of the performance cars that are available in Europe! So when one does get here all the kids go weak at the knees!. As for the 'Type R' Hondas what a joke!. Renault brought out a 1.4 litre turbo 2 (Renault 5) in the early eighty's with about 190 bhp! stock!. The states get everything raised and detuned to comply with regs!. So the 1st thing everyone does is to de-regulize everything!- lowered, cat removed!, air filter, exhaust muffler etc!. Still, since the trend setting 'Fast and Furious', there should be a gradual reduction in Rice Racers as they kill each other off!. |

In the USA you definitely seem to miss out on some impressive Japanese cars.
Check out this one: http://www.skylinesdownunder.co.nz/profiles/kiwi/kai.html That is 340hp at the rear wheels. I am not saying it is nice looking, but they drive and go extremely well!! My work associate is currently spending about $10kUS on engine modifications for his. His target is 650hp of drive around town power (quite why I don't know). The GTR basically has the 4WD system found in the 959, normally 100% rear but able to split power to any wheel. And yes they will thrash an SC. As race cars in Australia, they terrorised the V8 cars until the rules were changed so they could not race. Like most of the Japanese cars they are rated (in NZ and Japan) at 260 HP although they never actualy are, they are always more powerful. And before someone launches into they don't drive etc, I can tell you I would not want to chase one on any roads!! Read some of the reviews from the UK where they drive Mitsi EVO and WRXs against, yes a Porsche (shock horror, how could they) and then can you beleive it, they will pick one of the Jap cars as best, oh well.... Sorry anti-ricer people, but I doubt many Americans have seen what these cars are really capable of. cheers Neil 90C4 |

I agree the new scooby doesn't look too handsome, but it does look somewhat understated, and full of life at the same time. I'm thinking about one, if one works it's way to my place, the headlights would go first!
Keep in mind how tunable these cars are. Somebody beating a WRX at an auto-x with a 911 means nothing, I've never been beat by a 911 (except that RS driven by Patrice Bonquet), and I drive a 944, the 8v version... And then you go on to say that they don't come with low profile tires or anything, that should be your advantage, not his! These cars come with all season tires, and they're high off the ground from the factory, ready to rally from the factory. That 220hp is about $300 away from 280 or so, and stock it does 0-60 in well under 6 sec. And for $23k base price that includes a 6 disc CD changer, 4wd, etc. don't kid yourself, it's an awesome car, and awesome value. With all the high-performance versions never being brought to the US, no wonder why so many people look down on subarus. Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... WRX's only impress other boy racers. Who cares if they're fast. People admire my SC and even "non car" people, such as attractive young women, look at my car and me and think "nice package". When the same womem see a WRX or Nissan Godzilla they just think "car, so what".
Also high speed runs through the countryside, I've yet to see a boy racer handle 100mph or 120mph turns. I remember a guy in a Holden, it's one of those crappy GM type cars sticking with me at 120mph. We came up to a turn and I just steered the 911 through then looked back and saw the guy about 100 yards back taking up both sides of the road weaving all over the place trying to keep in contact with the tarmac. |

Buy them, sell them

Guys,
There is one reason that the Impreza WRX wasn't brought into the US until now: CARB. It never came close to meeting emissions regulations to satisfy the weiners. Actually, you guys get a slightly watered down version of the car. Aust/NZ spec cars feature the 17" wheels, big four piston/14" brakes in the front and two piston brakes in the rear. Also, they don't get the gumby side cladding. Race seats, climate control and aluminium bonnet also feature. These are fantastic cars, but the earlier old shape (1999-2000) models, although a lot rougher around the edges and kinda crude, are even more capable. Hey.. Gimme a 282bhp STi model with the new six-speed or the twin turbo Legacy B4, and it'll do as a beater! ![]() AC ------------------ Adam Chaplin - 1976 911 Coupe My Pelican Gallery Page My Owners Gallery Page |

Bill,
I'm yet to see any Holden do 120 mph! ![]() But, is what I hear true about Holden selling VX Commodores soon to the US with LS1 power and six speeds for Highway Patrol work? I know the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are now getting Statesmans etc. I hear we're the only ones still building hi-po, rear drive "el-cheapo" sedans in the whole world! ![]() AC ------------------ Adam Chaplin - 1976 911 Coupe My Pelican Gallery Page My Owners Gallery Page |

These cars are far from ready to 'Rally'. Have you seen the seats! How do you figure fitting the 4 point harness and sub belt then?. Where is the roll cage? Where are rally tires and wheels and, and,........ Commmmmonn!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My stock Carrera 15 years old does a book speed of less than 6 seconds! But at least I don't say 'Ready for the track!' ![]() These cars may feel pretty special parked next to a Honda Civic or a Toyota Tercel!. I imagine the average spotty teenager having pictures of them on his bedroom wall!! But they are still pussies!. I test drove the new Honda S2000 after all the 'rave' about them and was very disappointed 240 bhp and no guts (155lb torque). Very impressive on paper I'm sure, but however you dress it up it's still a Honda!. Same goes for a Subaru! |

why do hondas come with heated rear windows?
"to keep your hands warm while pushing them" what comes on the last 2 pages of a honda owners manual? "the local bus schedule" how do you improve the appearance of a honda? "park it between two porsches" What did the auto parts counterman say when the customer said, I'll take a set of wiper blades for my Honda? "Sounds like a fair trade to me." What do you call a Honda with brakes? "customized" Why don't Hondas sustain much damage in a front end collision? "The tow truck takes most of the impact." What do you call Honda passengers? "Shock absorbers" SHAUN |

Well, saying a subaru comes ready to rally is like saying a Porsche comes ready to race... Is a subaru 100%ready to rally? Yes, in showroom stock classes it is!
![]() I'm not saying Subaru has the prestige of a Porsche, but it does have the performance. Saying otherwise is simply being ignorant, the thing's plenty capable, with ability to kick some 996 butt for nearly 1/4th the price. My personal choice would be a Porsche as well, but that's not the point! I'll loosely quote a road tester "The WRX is not directly competing with the 911, but it is in the same performance league". here's a pic: ![]() Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver...
