thermostat temperature will NOT make your car run cooler.
a thermostat sets a temperature FLOOR for flow to the rad, but does not set a ceiling for max running temps.

if you're running hot, i suggest you verify your fans are working correctly, that all the plastic air ducting/dams are in place. also i suggest pulling the radiator from the car and "backflushing" it to knock sediment, rust etc out from the core, this will make a big difference in running temps.
