The key is the glycemic index if you are talking about spiking your blood glucose. Straight up oatmeal (not instant, processed etc.) is very low glycemic index compared to refined carbs such as white bread or straight up sugar (as in craisins).

As a result, if you stay with oatmeal and no other high gycemic foods in your breakfast, your bloodsugar should not spike and you should feel pretty full for most of the morning.
I eat egg whites and throw in a protein shake if I can't make it quite to lunch without cravings.
