97 M3 Ac.

From past posts I added a can of R134, but the guage indicated that I need more. Also the fan was not running? Following adding the R134 I stuck a screw driver in the grill and helped it, which started it going??? Is my fan going bad or is there too low pressure to start it. The AC seems to be working the same as it was, which is to say fine until the sun is really beating down. The cheaper fix would be to add another can, and see if that helps. One other thing, does the fan only go on when the compressor is on or should it be on when the AC button is depressed? Any suggestions. Thanks, K.

If the fan started when you gave it a bump, it is a pretty safe bet that the motor windings have a dead spot in them and you need a new fan motor.

Ouch. That fan is $300 on line or $600 at the dealer. How badly do you need to feel cool when stopped at stoplights? The A/C will work fine on the highway without that fan.

Thank you, I am going to check at the scrap yard, for a used one. These cars are a dime a dozen there, the last visit revealed a really clean 99 328 with Bilsteins, UUC exhaust and Confortti intake; hope its AC fan is still there. Thanks, K.

Garage
With a little work you could put an aftermarket fan in there.

Thank you. I added one can of 134 and took the car on the highway, the cold AC air comes in spurts which I can hear??? Acording to the guage I am still low on 134. I will add another can and see if that helps. Two more questions. 1) can I only remove the motor for the fan housing and replace it? 2) can I get at the fan from just removing the shroud over the radiator, or do I have to remove the front bumper and radiator. Thanks in advance. Kurt.
