About 5 years ago I rebuilt the 3.0 in my 1980 SC. Items changed/added include 964 cams, LN Engineering 100mm cylinders, Mahle 10.1:1 pistons, Carrera large port heads w/twin plug ignition. Electromotive XDi crank fire ignition, etc. I set the cams at 1.3mm advance and sacrificed a bit of low end torque for more mid and top end power. This engine is still running CIS although it is using an early SC large port airbox and has been modified to more closely resemble the 73.5 CIS layout. I have the ignition interrupt set at 7500 rpms and it pulls like a freight train all the way up! This engine shows that CIS doesn't have to stop making power at 6K rpms! A nice feature of the XDi ignition is that the timing is infinitely adjustable via 4 control knobs on the controller box and completely does away with the distributor. Eliminating the dizzy means there will be no high priced caps and rotors to buy ever!
