I too would like to have an 'alternate' source ...
Does it come down to finding a match for the following characteristics?
1) Bolt pattern/placement compatible with current 944 alternator
2) Physical 'packaging' compatible with the current volume or space requirements (the thing has to fit under the airbox)
3) Ability to use same pulley
4) Wire connection compatibility
Do all alternators put out the same power levels?
