This I'm trying to do to save money, while "saving" power as well. Anything shiny and new I'd buy would likely cost more (right?), unless it's for a beetle...
dugcat11, all alternators do not put the same power out. Usually the more electrical equipment on board, the more the output of the alternator.
drew1, what's the one wire type? I'll look at the website in a few mins.
It looks like I'm going to grab a 944 NA alternator for now, I don't really feel like experimenting w/an AC delco w/out a confirmation of it's fitment. I may replace the bearing on my alternator, which sounds like may be the problem (the shaft can move forward/back, A LOT). Socal has suggested a source for the bearings, which I will look into once I pull it out. Problem is I can't stop driving the car, as at the moment it's my only car...
