I can’t speak for the earlier model Targa’s but I find the 964 Targa to be perfectly acceptable for long road trips with the top on or off. Once the top was rebuilt the wind noise went away and I have no problem folding the top and stuffing it in the frunk. The chassis is tight, rattle free and I didn’t note any flex when hammering through the snake on Mullholland, Route 33 in Ojai or any of my runs to Palomar. The weight difference is also minimal, about 50 lbs more for the Targa from what I have observed from corner balance numbers. I just finished a 1100 mile drive in my Targa and never once did I wish I had a coupe.

Find a good example and you’ll love the coupe/convertible experience. Coupes are more sought after because they are preferred for track/AX use and yes some prefer the original lines of the coupe but that’s a matter of taste.
