Go to the MTO and start asking questions. Keep going until you get the answer you want and they help you through a process to get the title. Go to a different MTO if you need to. Up here in the hinterland we have a private/satellite/franchise office that is friendlier and more helpful than the main office.
I got a title for a dirtbike without too much issue. The fact that they wont be able to search for history on it (too old) is a good thing.
IIRC there is a process by which you sign an affidavit testifying that you are the rightful owner of the car.
It would help if you have a bill of sale and can prove you paid $XXX.00 for the car because they are going to want your money for the taxes. The easier you make it for them to do that the better off you'll be.
