Living in Japan that sounds very familiar. I love the Japanese new year’s traditions. The food is interesting all the mochi (pounded rice cakes) dishes are delicious. It’s also traditional to visit the local shrine and pray for a good year, followed by visiting the local family members. All of the school age kids receive little envelopes with cash!
This year we’re in Thailand on vacation, so we’ll just be relaxing poolside.
