I liked the 185/70-15's that came on my first 914, but they are not quite the correct OE size. The OE's were an odd metric R size, many came with the 165R-15 which IIRC works out to something like 165/83-15. So no matter how you slice it, unless you can find a"classic" size, the best you will do is a close size.
I too like stock height tires on 15" rims, I think it fills up the wheel well proper and just looks correct.
I have 5-bolt 15x6 fuchs with 205/60-15 tires on my 914, the new 914 has the 205/55-15 tires on 15X6" cookies, just that 5% sidewall difference makes the new 914 tires look too small.
I just wish there were decent sport tires in 205/60-15, 195/65-15.
