Research shows that carburetors ordered by the Porsche factory for early installation on cars like the 906, 911R and 2.3 ST may have had a numeric serial number and the carburetors offered to the after market had alpha-numeric serial numbers.
That information may be a bit erroneous. Weber also make 46s for Maserati and Ferrari and those carbs may also have had numeric serials.
Tracking "real" information about these old parts can be challenging .
