Just tidbits:
- I had an 83 SC that passed smogged everytime. After I moved away from CA I had the exhaust redone for more power...the mechanic commented my Cats were completely gutted all along. I had no idea. Yet the car passed every time. That suggest to me in good tune they are not that dirty, or the mechanics can make them pass with little effort.
- There are shops that will not look too hard for SMOG equipment. Or so I've heard.
- That said, I chose to leave that car behind when I moved back to CA (might have been a mistake, moving back and leaving the car) because they *are* annoying... My rule here is Pre 75 or modern. Nothing in between.
