Safety first: disconnect the battery negative terminal before doing this, since the fan motor can turn on at any time and is powerful and the fan blades can slice through skin when turning.

After disconnecting the battery, turn the fan blade by hand and see if it is hitting any part of the shroud. You may have moved things around with your mishap. You may have to reposition (as much as you can) the parts hitting until they stop doing so.

The fan is designed to operate even when the key is off, to cool the radiator on a hot day. There is a thermoswitch in the radiator which closes a radiator fan relay to operate the fan.
