Your Carrera sounds much like my 85. It too is Grand Prix white, with 15 inch 7&8s Fuchs, with the wheels painted to match. The 15 inch Fuchs are still popular with the folks that like factory stock cars, and the autocross folks, and the VW guys. 15 inch tires for a sports car are the challenge to find. Lots of options if you want a treadwear 80 autocross special. No much choice for an all around performance tire.
I finally gave up, and bought 17 inch Euromeister wheels. My properly date coded 15 inch Fuchs are up in my attic.
