Yes, ultimately they are protected by insurance. I'll give feedback once it arrives to see if I think it's worth keeping..appreciate your thoughts.

Maybe okay with smash and grab type of thieves. Someone without tools won't be able to open it, but it won't take much with 18 gauge steel and 3 bolts to pry it open - that's 1/20 of an inch. IMHO you are correct that this cabinet does not offer less protection than a similar priced "safe" that you buy at your local big box store. If you bolt it down, it also isn't easily taken in a smash and grab.
In the end you won't be able to protect against a serious break in even spending 5x and that's what insurance is for.
