You cut the hole for the new tail pipes first and then torch the openings in the interior thru the left one, according to the text. I don't see how you get the big disks you cut out of the inner partitions back out thru the little exhaust pipe hole without cutting them into pieces, though. You don't want to leave them rattling around inside the muffler, that's for sure.

You can also open up the outside shell of the muffler from the top to gain access and then weld it back up. That's what I did with mine, since I retained the single outlet and didn't add the dual pipes. I completely cut out the piece which is shown in the top drawing as the "slotted pipe section" also.
