FWIW, on my '87 that same connector controlled the power to the Frunk light bulb and to the left and right interior lights in the cabin.
The same lights were flaky and I couldn't diagnose why it kept flickering until I installed the JWest relay kit, to which I stabilized the connector by screwing it to the relay. No problems since.
