Mysterious Electrical Connector

Just finished doing the contact fix for the headlight dimmer switch on the steering column and it was easy and fixed the headlight issue. I was going to follow that repair with installation of the JWEST relay kit. The first thing I noticed when looking at the fuse box is the location where the new relay kit is suppose to mount that there is already some electrical connector there. I have no idea what it is or what it does. I'm the second owner the po did have H4 bulbs and Bosch glass installed Other then that I'm clueless but would welcome everyone's thoughts.
She has a wide ass but I still love her

What year, and where does that bundle of wires at the right go to?

I may not to be able to help with your electrical questions, but is that a rare Turbo Targa? Or Turbo flares added to a regular Targa?

More photos please!

Mark

What are the numbers, or other writing on the side of that thing? You may be able to Google or check the PET with those numbers.

That may be just a connector, or you may already have a relay.

My '87 has that connect there. When I installed the relay kit, I just kind of tucked it (connector) behind it. Not sure what all the connector is for (too lazy to look it up)...

Thanks for the response, it's a factory 1987 Targa with the Turbo Look , code 491. So turbo look, turbo brakes, turbo wheels and I believe torsion bars but no turbo.
First owner had the engine rebuilt and they used 3.5 pistons and jugs, ported heads, performance cam, chip and muffler.

Thanks, I'll take a look the numbers this evening and see what I come up with. Because the po changed out the bulbs to H4 type and did the Bosh glass i was thinking it might be headlight related wiring and connector but not sure. I think I might just disconnect the coupling and see what happens. If the headlights still work then install the relays.

That's good to know, the connector and wiring install looks very clean and done very well but the wiring is wrapped in electrical type friction tape which made me think it was an after market add on.

If you look closely at the connector, you can actually see the Porsche parts logo molded into the plastic. Actually, they did use "friction" type electrical tape around the car, especially in the interior and trunk areas. Normally this was via the harness makers (Draxelmayer, etc.).

Thank you Sir, I'm about as old as some of the mountains north of here but still enjoy learning something new. Your help is appreciated.

FWIW, on my '87 that same connector controlled the power to the Frunk light bulb and to the left and right interior lights in the cabin.

The same lights were flaky and I couldn't diagnose why it kept flickering until I installed the JWest relay kit, to which I stabilized the connector by screwing it to the relay. No problems since.

Snitzler

A picture makes it so easy for those of us without great electrical expertise to understand things and there again all the other pictures I've seen didn't show the connector which is why I was concerned to begin with.

Now i'll feel comfortable installing the relay.

Many thanks and I appreciate you taking to time to post the picture.

That's interesting info, my next project after installing the headlight relay will be tackling the interior lights, clock electrical gremlin. I've got a short somewhere which blows the fuse. So if that is the connector for those components it should make it easier to test to determine where the short is, here's hoping, maybe. I'm an electrical novice.

Thanks

I'm no expert either. I tapped the connector, and the lights flickered. 1+1=2 for me. Good luck chasing the gremlins.

For what it is worth the connector number is 94461255100 and listed as a Genuine Porsche Part: ELEC. SOCKET-6PIN.

Again thanks to all for the help.

I have the relay kit as well. I asked the question about installing it over that connector. As far as I can remember the answer was just tuck that connector under the fuse block. I never did install the relay.
