Snap sounds are high voltage. Ignition wires. The wire, or a connector, is shorting. The spark is perhaps exiting the side (insulation) of the wire or connector and grounding against the engine. This can happen at the spark plug connector, down in the hole where you cannot see it. The connectors can be replaced separately.
