Engine Electrical SNAP SNAP ???
Took the SC for a Winter drive this morning after several weeks of hibernation. After about fifteen minutes I stopped and opened the engine compartment with the car running and heard this loud random electrical SNAP SNAP noise that I could not pinpoint? The car was running perfectly but the sound was coming from the coil side of the engine. Any ideas? I want to run the car in a dark place and remove some of the covers in the area to see if I see an arc? It sounded like it was coming from the large electrical looking unit (??) on the left firewall but was afraid to fish around too much thinking I would get a shock!

Sounds as if a spark plug wire is breaking down or maybe the plug wire is not seated onto the plug.

Snap sounds are high voltage. Ignition wires. The wire, or a connector, is shorting. The spark is perhaps exiting the side (insulation) of the wire or connector and grounding against the engine. This can happen at the spark plug connector, down in the hole where you cannot see it. The connectors can be replaced separately.

Maybe a critter decided to have a snack and nibbled on a plug or coil wire and the H/V is going to ground.
