from Socorro NM go down I-25 about 20-30 miles to San Antonio NM. Take 380 east that will take you by the Trinity site (the govt loves NM so much they nuked it first) the Malpais lava flow and into Carrizozo, Capitan (birthplace of Smokey the Bear) Lincoln (Billy the Kid fame) then Roswell (UFOs). From Roswell you can head northeast and catch I-40 at Amarillo. Hold your breath from Clovis to Canyon TX, lots of feedlots out there. Scenery is spectacular from Carrizozo to Roswell, mountains, rolling hills, nice stuff. Eat at Oso Grill in Capitan or K-Bobs in Clovis, great places.

Hey. I lived in Hereford (between Clovis and Canyon) for a couple of years. "Smell that Herford money!" At one time there were more cattle on hoof in Deaf Smith county (Hereford) than any other county in the US.
