That's ONLY going to work if he can get more than 1 IP which I'm not thinking is likely. And rather than buying another device, he could just plug the modem into one of the LAN ports of his current router and not use the WAN port and get basically the same thing. That would put all of the LAN ports on the same network and even the wifi stuff. The only difference would be that he'd need to disable the DHCP on the LAN side of the router.
