I'm not familiar with the adapters you're referring to, but if I've understood the challenge, I'd think the adapter is going to be some sort of spacer with a step on the OD to prevent poking through the monoball. A washer might keep it from poking through, but the top of the shock insert might be left to knock around in the monoball? Depending on how much movement there is, it could result in measurable camber change, not ideal for doing alignment.
