Porsche Crest Porsche 996 - Ignition key gets stuck and won't turn.

Hello, I am new to the forum, so please forgive me if this question has been asked in the past.

I have a 2000 Porsche 996. It has about 64K miles and is in extremely nice shape.

During the past few weeks, I've been having a problem with the ignition key. When I attempt to start it, the key won't turn. It seems to get stuck and won't move past the OFF position. After a few try's and a slight bit of pressure, it seems to "break free" and the car starts and runs properly. After that, the key will turn as it should, until the next time I try to start it. That said, it doesn't happen every time, so it's kind of intermittent.

Based on the research that I've done here on the forum and on YouTune, it seems that it might be the ignition switch, which is a relatively easy repair.

My question is.... am I diagnosing this properly, or can it be something else based on my description of the problem? Can the ignition switch produce the symptoms or condition that I'm experiencing?

Thank you and I appreciate any help and/or suggestions the group may have.

Best Regards,
Sergio
