Started getting a weird, high pitched squeal, intermittently while driving. The noise started becoming more and more constant, and I could hear it easily at a stop light echoing off of other cars.
Just had a full service done by Porsche shop, including a new belt. Porsche shop stuck their head under quickly, said possibly alternator bearings, but cant get me in for a month. Did some research here, sounds like my issue.
Took the fan apart, alternator out. Alternator is going to a rebuild shop today, however, after more research, I've seen that these fans and housings are very susceptible to cracking, and my housing does have a few cracks. Fan has a chipped blade as well.
It does not look as bad as most of the threads I've gone through on here, but I thought I'd get your opinions before I put this all back together. I really don't want to spend $1000 on a new fan housing, so if this is passable, I'm going to run it. If not, I'm open to recommendations on suitable replacements. Let me know what you think -
