I sold a us original 87 Carrera back to the us last year and the shipping company (TFX transport) required payment of the duty on the car. Seems like if you're lucky and you can slip it through the cracks you might get away without paying the duty but not if you're using a shipping company to handle the brokerage.
Just my experience.
