Last summer, my FPR was failing intermittently on my 85. Car unexpectedly stalled a few times. Eventually wouldn’t start, but would fire on starting fluid sprayed into the air cleaner.
While troubleshooting in the garage, the fuel pressure was sometimes ok at the test port on the fuel rail, and the car would start, but not run. Sometimes pressure was zero, or nearly so.
I replaced the fuel pump, thinking that was it, but it didn’t help. Then I checked and found 100psi at the fuel filter outlet (before the regulator) and zero at the test port.
I picked up a Standard Motor Products PR71 for $76. Installed it and the car started and ran fine for the 3 months before I put it away for winter.
