Fuel Pressure Regulator - 1987 Carrera (Targa)

Hi,

Anyone know where I can get a Porsche/Bosch OEM fuel pressure regulator for my 1987 911 Carrera? I didn't see it on Pelican. Looks like this.

Scott

Spaul - out of curiosity, what are the symptoms you had leading to replace the FPR?

Not sure if the Bosch units are available. I know that Delphi makes a replacement unit. FP-10732 and is available through NAPA.

This may be another option. Not cheap, but likely less than what you'll pay for a Bosch one if you can find it. For reference the 911 3.2 uses the same FPR as the 85-86 928.

Cheap Replacement Parts........

I got this fuel pressure regulator 3 years ago for $75 to replace the defective Bosch. Yesterday temperature was below 32°F, I started the ‘89 Carrera 3.2 and the motor came to life on the first attempt.

Test your Bosch fuel pressure regulator using a gauge:
  • Test #1: Bridge terminals #87b and #30 (@ DME relay).
  • Test #2: Bridge fuses #16 & #17 (counting from bumper to windshield).

Connect a pressure gauge at the test port located on the fuel rail near cylinder #1.

Last summer, my FPR was failing intermittently on my 85. Car unexpectedly stalled a few times. Eventually wouldn’t start, but would fire on starting fluid sprayed into the air cleaner.

While troubleshooting in the garage, the fuel pressure was sometimes ok at the test port on the fuel rail, and the car would start, but not run. Sometimes pressure was zero, or nearly so.

I replaced the fuel pump, thinking that was it, but it didn’t help. Then I checked and found 100psi at the fuel filter outlet (before the regulator) and zero at the test port.

I picked up a Standard Motor Products PR71 for $76. Installed it and the car started and ran fine for the 3 months before I put it away for winter.

—Best, Dave
