I've used broker that I just googled. They give you options as to shipping / ground transport. Since you are on west coast Long Beach is an option or they could ground transport cross country.

My experience is with cars though. Watch out for storage fees if the bike gets there before you do. England will be much easier with language. I had some difficulty with Germany and fees and the office actually being open during posted hours.

Cars are usually put on Roll on/roll off boats (but you can do container). I'd be asking what they do with bikes. I know for DoD when you ship household goods out of country they put motorcycles in wooden crates just like your couch and other stuff.

Edit: forgot to mention... I've dropped off cars at the actual port, driving around dodging containers. Also have loaded up on vehicle transport at Walmart parking lot and trucked to the port. The latter was far easier but you generally have to meet the driver when he gets there and it probably won't be in middle of the day.
