Shipping a motorcycle to Europe:

I know that I've asked about this before but since it's been years, I wanted to start a fresh thread. Anyone here have expertise in general shipping, the ports, brokers, etc.? I'm thinking about shipping a bike over to England. TIA as always.

I've used broker that I just googled. They give you options as to shipping / ground transport. Since you are on west coast Long Beach is an option or they could ground transport cross country.

My experience is with cars though. Watch out for storage fees if the bike gets there before you do. England will be much easier with language. I had some difficulty with Germany and fees and the office actually being open during posted hours.

Cars are usually put on Roll on/roll off boats (but you can do container). I'd be asking what they do with bikes. I know for DoD when you ship household goods out of country they put motorcycles in wooden crates just like your couch and other stuff.

Edit: forgot to mention... I've dropped off cars at the actual port, driving around dodging containers. Also have loaded up on vehicle transport at Walmart parking lot and trucked to the port. The latter was far easier but you generally have to meet the driver when he gets there and it probably won't be in middle of the day.

I sold a Sportster to a guy in Spain. Used the local United Van Lines agent-Clemmer Moving in Souderton Pa. They picked the bike up, crated and shipped. I'd check with United franchisee's in the LA area.

the airfare option is cost prohibitive, since covid hit town.
Stefan Knopt specializes in transporting via container/boat - to Germany, if that works. he used to ship outta Long Beach - i believe it's Florida only, at this point in time.

Buddy of mine works here - they can ship anything to anywhere. Might be worth checking out. I've never done it and have no affiliations.

The trucking broker I use suggested CRF Rinkens, assuming they probably do motorcycles as well as cars.

Might not apply in your situation but Lufthansa will apparently let you ride it out to the plane. As long as it has half tank or less they will load it up and you ride it away when the plane lands in Germany. Some RG500 guys have done this in the past, I’m not sure if ride and fly is still current but it sounds interesting….

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

Good god, that would be amazing. It would have to be my BMW R100RS in that case.
