would it be easier to unscrew at the mirror and remove the wiring from the inside rather than disconnecting the connector and feeding the wire in and out. looked at it..seems tight.

Not sure where you are, so don’t know what stores you have available, but lots show up.
It will be one of the round hollow pieces that are the tightest fit as you slide it over the terminal and push the terminal out.
Be sure to mark each terminal and wire to go back together right.
You will have to carefully get the locking tabs lifted to engage again when done. So they will go back in their holes and stay.
I use an exacto blade for that.
