When I was in the process of resurrecting the car, I had three Porsche guys look at the motor in its various states- prior to tear down and after. None of them seemed concerned with case damage. Two believed that it could be put back together without splitting the case and the third thought that in order to rebuild it correctly then i should split the case.
When I was directed above to split the case and reassemble it, that only makes sense to me if I am going to go ahead and refinish the halves and install new bearings, etc.
I am looking to sell this motor, not rebuild it.
