Does this sound right?
I was talking with a local shop that's fairly well regarded for their paint and body work, and they were suggesting my 1980 needed to be chemically stripped to get rid of all of the factory galvanizing. He said the reason was for paint adhesion. He also said something about how as long as the car was always garaged and driven in fair weather it shouldn't be a problem. He lost me there as I'm building a rain or shine driver, but I continued the conversation because I was curious.
I guess most folks building 911's these days are building garage queens, but I just cant imagine stripping all of the factory galvanization as being the "right way" to do this?
To be clear, this wasn't a low end shop or a discussion about a "cheap" paint job. I was given a rough estimate of $16K-$25K if I delivered the car stripped to the tub and needing little to no body work and doing the re-assembly myself.
Also, Yikes BTW.
