I applaude the tinkering, though you should have someone come over who's 911-knowledgeable and have him look over it.
As you are totally new to it you may do more bad than good to it and make unknowingly poor decisions on how-to (even by reading through the forums content).

From what I've learned: such types of cars - these long sitting barn finds- can hardly be a successful rolling-restoration.

As others have said: stop and make a plan with someone.
- check the brakes, calipers, pistons, fluid !!
- chassi bushings, shock, tie rods (most probably absolutely dead)
- engine, drop it, pill the transmission, check seals and clutch
- fuel, lines/hoses, pump

when these 4 are done for safety and performance reasons, then you can start cleaning and buy stickers and stuff.

if you just get the engine running you will drive on an unsafe basisi and it will crumble even more or you might hurt someone/yourself
