In my experience A 123 dist with a regular coil doesn't have enough juice for a hot rod 911 motor with carbs. I know you said EFI but I was having very similar symptoms as you then added a MSD 6al and it transformed the car
The 123 is a great, very adjustable as far as curve, distributor however the ign needs some power
and a regular coil isn't going to do it
