Just as another point to consider: I converted my 914 racer back to a street car. CA made the process just a bit more complicated than it needed, IMO. VIN verification and "safety inspection" while the car was at the shop, combined with a DMV employee who didn't know the DMV regulations for cars older than 1975 just added to the "fun".
Now that it's back on the road, I do enjoy embarrassing younger BMW drivers on the freeway. The 2.0 liter badge on the rear was kept and there are indeed 2 liters in the 2.7 911 engine (built to RS specs). They're wicked fast and tremendous fun. You really should pull the trigger.
