With me, it goes back to my childhood. Those days, even in grade school, I had to walk to school (right at a mile) as you were not allowed to ride a bike to school until halfway through 3rd grade. So I would pick up deposit bottles on the way to and from school .
After school I would cash them in at the Zippy Mart, buy a few Whacky Packs .

And save the rest of the money and on Sunday mornings, while my parents were sleeping in , I’d hop on my bicycle, and ride a couple of miles to Zayres

And buy these really cool little cars. I had to hide them because, 1), I wasn’t supposed to ride that far from home.
2), I wasn’t allowed to cross multi lane roads, yet, here I am crossing a couple to go buy my beloved Hot Wheels.
And I can’t walk into a store without checking out the Hot Wheels. But I buy what I like, I don’t look for the Treasure Hunt and the collectible ones, just what appeals to me.
When I was younger, I’d buy 2 of each one I liked, that way I could play with one and save the other.
So I guess you could say my 1st taste of defiance and independence, since the money to buy them didn’t come from my parents.
