Ok, after a bit more research, I learned that the window will indeed still operate even though that spring pivot may be missing. So, I decided to visually confirm whether mine was still in place or not. Of course, it was not.
Side note: I'm retracting my earlier statement about removing the regulator from the door being one of the most difficult things I've ever done. Turns out it was a piece of cake compared to inserting it back into the door, and getting it bolted to the motor - Arrrghhhhh!!!
During the removal of the screws that hold the motor to the regulator, I inadvertently removed the screw (close by) that holds the stop bracket onto the assembly. When I went to put it back on, I noticed the part it bolts to was bent. Not sure how this could happen - seems like that would take a HUGE amount of pressure to bend it. In any case, I straightened it before re-attaching the stop bracket.
Now, I just need to spend some unplanned time fabricating a couple of spring pivots (I'm assuming the other side is likely also broken). Luckily, there seems to be lots of info in this forum on how to do this.
As always, thanks for all the help!
