There should be a spring at the throttle body and it could have broken. Or the set screw holding the rod end of the throttle cable to the throttle arm may have come out. We use dual springs, one on the throttle arm and a second, loose one on the rod portion of the cable. Since the engine revved well, I'd bet on the former?????
