I worked on an early 80's volvo 240DL... everything I touched crumbled.

I agree about this german wiring holding up terribly to time. I have worked on both an 85 subaru and an 85 mazda, and on both, all of hte wiring was still in good shape, never had a connector crumble apart, or insulation fall off in my hands.
