I just got off the phone with Lant Insurance. They offer great rates, but some restrictions. Here's the basics:
They need an official appraisal (all ins. co's do,
AFAIK). I estimated mine at $13K (having one done this summer), and she quoted me $375/yr. At $15K it would be $420/yr. This is really good all-year round coverage: $1million liability, $100 collision $100 comprehensive.
Here's the downside: no commuting to work, no business use, and no daily driving, i.e. no taking it to the mall, walmart, video store, etc. Basically it's for driving on the street or highways. It's ok to, say, stop at the drug store on the way home, but that's about it. And of course absolutely no track.
This is the first classic or vintage ins. co. I've contacted (I'm with Economical right now, through our regular broker, at $150/month). Are most classic policies this restrictive? I don't mind paying a bit more for more flexibility, as I do use mine as a daily driver, including taking it to the mall or video store, but I'd like to do better than $150/month.
