Mike, I'm not so sure that my crossmember had any flex...hence that's why it broke (i.e. something had to give), but I really don't know. In hindsight (and after removing the bolt in my bench vise), imo, the REAL problem was that the bolt was 'bone dry' on the threads...i.e. the penetrant hadn't worked its magic even over several days of applications. Hit them with penetrant in advance (while you're still driving the car), and then use a 3" breaker bar (following JW's advice), and I'm quite sure you'll be fine....Good luck!
