Engine mount torque

I ordered some WEVO SS mounts from our host, and I was wondering what the torque spec was? I did some searches and found allot of info about mounts but not torques specs for the installation. Also, do solid, semi solid and OEM all have the same spec? Is a re-torque after X amount of time / miles suggested ?

Thanks !
Mike

I asked the same question a few months ago when I changed my engine mounts, not many people knew about the exact torque specs.

I did some research and I read somewhere recomended 54 ft. lbs.

I am sure a expert can chime in for the exact torque spec recomendations.

Strictly going from memory here, but as I recall, the 54 ft. lbs is for the single large bolt that secures the motor mount to the engine cross member. The two smaller bolts that secure the motor mount to the body are substantially less (but I don't recall the exact spec.). Be careful....you DON'T want to torque those two smaller bolts to 54 ft/lbs ...or something's going to give. If no one else chimes in, I'll look it up when I get home and post the correct torque values.

Thank you for your replies. jtkkz, Keith, did you go with a solid or the Wevo SS mount? How did you like them? I have not seen this discussed either, but with a solid or semi solid mount maybe locktite blue would be a good idea (due to the increase in vibration) Maybe it has not been discussed because it is not an issue.

My understanding based on the factory spec info is 65 ftlb for the 930 engines. This is the big hex nut, not the 2 small screws that secures the mount to the chassis.

Mike, I went with the sport mounts (...I didn't know about the Wevo's back then, or they might not have been available), but if I had to do it again, I'd use Wevo's. IMO, using loctite is a non-issue on these bolts...if getting my old one's off was any indication...they aren't 'working loose' I'll check on those torque values when I get home for ya....

edited: I don't know what I was thinking when I originally replied...I didn't go with solid mounts...I used the sport mounts.

I was wondering the same thing. Just went form solid to WEVO yesterday and used the 54 spec. WEVO makes a fair difference in the amount of noise transferred to the cabin. The solids were pretty harsh, even form me. Now, Just gotta get a couple more for the tranny and take out the clubsport ones that are there!

Cheers, Jeff

As for getting the old bolts out, I am planning on using an impact wrench. Hopefully that will cut down on the the amount of cursing and
swearing on this upgrade !

Hey Mike, I don't know if you have seen this thread, but here was my experience with an impact wrench....be sure to read John Walker's sage advice in this thread!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=209774

You might want to go ahead and spray the large bolt with penetrating fluid (a rubber tube slid underneath, between the large washer and the mount works well) while you're still driving the car to help get the fluid where it needs to go. As far as the torque specs, per my Bentley manual, the large bolt gets 58 ft/lbs, and the two smaller bolts that attach the motor mount to the car get 18 ft/lbs. Hope this helps...

Keith- Thanks again for confirming the torque spec for me and for your
thread / experience ! Looks like the breaker bar is the way to go. I was thinking though about the flex that is occuring in the engine bracket and
how it broke. Is there any way to stop it from flexing by wedging a wood board or block in there? That way it would be less likely to break, and by reducing the flex it would be easier to break the bolt free ?

Mike

Mike, I'm not so sure that my crossmember had any flex...hence that's why it broke (i.e. something had to give), but I really don't know. In hindsight (and after removing the bolt in my bench vise), imo, the REAL problem was that the bolt was 'bone dry' on the threads...i.e. the penetrant hadn't worked its magic even over several days of applications. Hit them with penetrant in advance (while you're still driving the car), and then use a 3" breaker bar (following JW's advice), and I'm quite sure you'll be fine....Good luck!

How is the noise and vibration with the WEVO mounts? Can they be used on the transmission on a 930?

yes 54 ft. lbs. on the large bolt only and much less on the 2 smaller side bolts.

I used the stock replacement engine mounts.

The WEVO mounts seem to transmit less noise thant he solid ones I took out, but more than the clubsport ones.

Jeff, With that being said, you are still going to take out your clubsport mounts from the transmission and put in the Wevo's? It sounds like you already have the perfect mount set-up now. Wevo's for the engine, clubsport for the trans. Wevo's on the trans might be too "harsh" as the
trans mounts are more sensitive to transmitting noise.
