it's magic.
when/if you change out the switch, some do it from the top, i had the car on ramps and didn't remove the fans.
see where the water level is in the expansion tank.
you'll get wet but it'll only come down to the bottom of the switch and when you get the gasket/switch in, all you need to do is fill to the same level and you may not have to burp/bleed the system.
there are 2 thermostats, lo/hi and there are 2 switches, lo/hi so both should be the same to get the lower temps around the 1st line.
