we normally have about 30 participants, we may see a few more this year. During timed sessions there is only 4-5 cars on the track, you are spaced out 20 seconds each, and there is no passing, so no fender to fender racing.
During the school we have about 10-15 instructors, you will be out with other cars on the track, also probably 10-15, but it is controlled lapping as everyone is learning.
As to cost, it is just a function of having to rent the full track, which has gotten substantially more expensive the last few years. The timed events also include the school in their pricing since we have to make everyone complete the school before they can take part in a timed event.
I can guarantee you will find the track a blast. The 911 is such a fun track car.
