Thanks for the links! It looks like a fairly common problem. Both windows go up and down at the same speed. Maybe the spring tab is snagged on something else and didn't lose much tension.....or the part is left over from a previous repair. I definitely heard the part fall. On the other hand, maybe the same part has been lying in the bottom of the other door since before I bought the car.

Now, to take the door apart again.

Yup, this forum is invaluable. The search function is nice but the friendly advice and direction from other members is what makes it really work.
